How We Monte
I do what I consider a mix. Montessori is our base, modified for both the 21st century & our family specifically.
The Base
The premise of Montessori is how you raise your child: prepared for the world. Real world experience is a greater teacher than sitting in a classroom. They may be ‘behind’ in some regards, but frequently will have a broader base of understanding the world.
Following the child is another thing that just. made. sense. We follow to see where her interest is, and she flourishes. Numbers, nature, and currently: dinosaurs.
The STEM
I’m a nerd and absolutely love STEM…. except for math. I definitely hate math. Personally, I believe it to be a disservice to not encourage the incredible world of STEM, through the eyes of a Montessori approach.
Exploring the world through the eyes of a 2 year old is incredible, and the changes are astounding. By looping STEM practices into everyday real world activities, her absorbent mind continues to grow.
Our Family
Our lives have been… unstable. With Zak in the military, we’ve learned to adapt. In ~5 years of marriage, we have moved 5 times (not counting my initial move to California when we were engaged).
I adore learning about medicine, culture, mental health, and all things health. Zak adores language, technology, and computer programming. We both love reading and creating, and we yearn to share that.
